The Skagit County Sheriff’s Office released additional information Sunday night on the reported Saturday morning slaying that occurred in the Marblemount area.

A 31-year-old Rockport man called 911 about 2 a.m. to report that he accidentally shot his girlfriend at their campsite along the trail to Granite Lakes, according to a statement released by the Sheriff’s Office.

Skagit County deputies, detectives and Search and Rescue hiked to the area and found the 28-year-old woman dead at the scene.

The man was arrested and booked into Skagit County Jail for investigation of homicide.

The case is still under investigation.
