Business is good at the Foxy Lady Latte "bikini barista" stand on Old Highway 99 near Cook Road north of Burlington.
"Every day on my shift alone I get 10 new customers in addition to my regulars," said Kymm Rivers, the 22-year-old manager of the Foxy Lady.
Rivers convinced her boss to open up Skagit County's first bikini barista establishment in June, after she had been working for him at an espresso stand in Snohomish County.
The business model is a simple one: Give customers a little bit of skin with their caffeine. As advertised, the baristas wear slim bikinis while pouring espresso drinks for drive-through and walkup customers. During three separate stops to the stand, usually in the late morning, a steady stream of male customers visited the stand at 9566 Old Highway 99.
Rivers insisted she gets a significant number of women at her drive-through as well. She said about 25 percent of her customers are women.
Bikini barista espresso stands made the news in a bad way last week in Snohomish County. Citizens stood up in a meeting hall to express their disgust over this particular business trend. The outrage wasn't directed at the bikinis but at what some opponents claimed was illegal activity going on at espresso stands in Snohomish County.
The Associated Press reported that a police undercover investigation resulted in accusations of prostitution by bikini baristas.
Rivers said the Skagit County stand is family-friendly.
"We're a very tasteful stand," Rivers said. "It sucks to have girls like that doing the things they do. They just put a bad name on us."
Rivers has gotten some startled reactions from female customers who came up to the stand not knowing about the bikini theme. She said she has heard some criticism in those situations, but no one has been rude.
As for the male customers, they haven't posed any problems either, Rivers said.
"Our customers are good to us. They're sweet," she said.

Just checked out the link… this looks to be a biker thing. Great. My advice still stands. Now, if you don’t mind my form of sarcasm, I’d like to have my own damn “condemnation coversation” to wipe the welfare kingdom of Hamilton off the map as a weapons range + extend the Concrete runway long enough to open a training site for our C-17s + make Skagit Regional a full fledged Anne Will Air Force Base (only Skagit Valley College Cardinals of a certain era will get what I mean). At least that’ll do some good :-). |

Oh, for crying out loud! This is NON-news. They wear bikinis to the beach, and nobody says a word. They go for coffee, and their minds explode.

Who comes up with these “news” stories? I don’t drink coffee anyways so this is rather BORING. Why can’t the Herald come up with something interesting enough to make reading the paper a “have to”? |
