It was founded by Mount Vernon Argus newspaper publishers Stephen & Wilma Mergler on the recommendation of a Skagit County Superior Court Judge who was concerned about local children in detention over the holidays. Over the years the fund has met the documented needs of children as the 'fund of last resort' not only at Christmas, but throughout the year. Each year these funds are used to by warm clothing, shoes, send kids to camp, plus a myriad of other small but important things that help a child in need.
