The county is starting across the bridge to a more sustainable future. The climate resolution lays out steps that not only will decrease carbon output but also will save money in reduced energy and transportation costs, and create benefits such as better air quality, less traffic congestion and wiser land-use policies. Skagit Beat the Heat is for preparing now to make this transition as positive as possible. Will we need to give up some things?  Yes. Does that mean a dismal future? No.

Global warming is not proven and there is not consensus among scientists.  It is supremely arrogant to think that we humans have control over this planet.  The earth warms and cools in cycles--it has been happening since the beginning of time and will continue long after humans are extinct.  Radical environmentalists thought the earth was cooling not too far in the distant past--now this same crowd is selling another crisis.  They are even subtly changing the catchword to “climate change” instead of “global warming” because reality isn’t fitting their agenda.  Has this year seemed unusually cool to anyone else?  Government anti climate change initiatives are nothing but a tax increase in disguise.  They will work to micromanage what people drive, what lightbulbs they use and countless other day to day things and it is all going to cost us so much more.  I’m all for not wasting fuel and being good stewards of the environment but we should not wreck our economy in the process.  There needs to be balance and for too long, we have been held hostage by environmental extremists who want to impose their way of life on everyone else.

“Global warming,” which the enviromental idiots now call “global climate change,” - “it may get warmer or it may get colder, we don’t know which, but Al Gore says it’s the fault of the human race” - is the biggest load of crap I’ve ever heard.  This is propaganda on a global scale being spearheaded by the UN for purposes of creating an Earth Government.

Sound crazy to you, does it?  Read United Nations Agenda-21, written back in the early nineties.  All the points in their plan for global control, which they call “global sustainability,” are being carried out right on schedule.  And the leftist sheep are just following the leader.

This all sounds nice but I don’t think anybody should stroke their own conscience too much over how great it is to be green.  We are already past the point of no return.  Pay attention to what is going on around the world - emissions are still rising even in the most “progressive” nations.  And there are billions of people who haven’t even started buying cars and televisions and cell phones.  This is NOT a local problem and it is naive to still be talking about avoiding the worst of it.  Like the polar bears, we should be prepared to adapt, not bear a disproportionate financial burden for some endeavor that has no chance of success.

This is all assuming that is doesn’t just start getting cooler again.
