For nearly 60 years, the Skagit Valley Herald Christmas Fund has borne the name of this newspaper, which launched the original holiday effort to help make the season happier for local families in need.
But increasingly, the fund has really been a communitywide effort supported by many vital partners and uncounted numbers of local volunteers who help organize the drive and carry out the collection and distribution of toys, books, food and other items that families can put to good use.
