The legacy of a bad decision by two Skagit County commissioners in 2005 on solid waste is a new and, hopefully, effective governance system for trash and a $240,000 expense to defend against a pair of lawsuits. Now that the lawsuits are out of the way, we can expect that the new Solid Waste Governance Board will be able to plan for a system that operates efficiently and in the public interest.

Now you have the County spending more money by jumping in the Janicki-City of Sedro-Woolley LUPA lawsuit. Not one City supports the County’s action but they still did it without the new Solid Waste Goverence Board’s blessing. Business as usual. From what I’ve been told the relations between the County and Cities is broken because of lies told by County. Skagit Valley Hearld management should either start attending these Goverance Board meetings or talk to Ralph Swartz to learn how the County is bulling their “partners.” Ralph knows. It’s all about protecting the million dollar the County sucks away each year from the Solid Waste System and Dalestad’s family trust conflict of interest. Skagit Valley editors get off your butt and attend a meeting and learn first hand and you’ll start seeing the picture and write realistic editorials. What are you afraid of, the truth?
