The Anacortes Planning Commission approved the shoreline permit for the Guemes Ferry terminal building at its regular meeting June 25.

Discussion on the permit application submitted by the Skagit County engineering department was continued from the May 28 planning commission meeting. The permit was required because the building will be within 200 feet of the water line.

Before the project moves forward, the county will have to obtain a city building permit and have the county board of commissioners approve the $500,000 construction project.

In regards to parking....there are many days or weekends out of the year (4th of July was one) where cars (belonging to folks going over to Guemes) are left around on ‘I’ Ave, 7th and 6th for the entire weekend. If the ferry parking lot can’t accommodate those vehicles it would be nice if some agency would pay out for for street upgrades like covering the deep, open drainage ditches that run up ‘I’ Ave and graveling those parking strips that RVs, boats and visitor’s cars dig up.  That doesn’t make up for the loss of parking locals have to put up with, but it does help maintain the area from the onslot.

Make the Guemes residents pay for the extra parking and street upgrades.

Cool idea, Irt.  To expand on that let’s make just the football fans pay for Quest Field and just the baseball fans pay for Safeco.  GREAT idea!

I agree 100%.  And we’ll make only the liberal hand-wringers pay for welfare and the rest of the great American social programs.

Heck of leap is what Neo-Cons are known for.

Those ‘American social programs’ have built the the most stable and capable society on the planet.  If you think that just the forward thinking, compassionate Liberals should pay for them then, it follows, you also think Liberals should be the only ones to benefit from Social Security, Medicare and student loans.  I’ll leave you to break the news to your grandparents and the kids.

Then I expect you to address who’s going to pay for Corporate Welfare.

Social Security?  Medicare?

I was referring to the free handout programs given to any lazy, non-productive member of American society who would rather let the public support them than work for a living.  And the same give-away programs that hand out cash, food stamps, free child care, free schooling, etc. to individuals who are in this country illegally.

Ladies and gentlemen, that loud whooshing sound you just heard was NOT the space shuttle taking off, it was only the sound of my point passing high over Lee’s head.

Again, Irt, you come back to illegal aliens.  That subject is more complex (encouraged by Bush’s policies) than you have the nerve to investigate.

Meanwhile....the Guemes parking overspill affects the surrounding neighborhood and needs to be addressed and solved.
