Sorry, but in my opinion this new format is terrible.

Where are the archives from April and May? Are all of the comments gone from pre-upgrade items? I was curious how things were going to work without the year being part of certain file names, such as letters to the editor.

A lot harder to read postings.  At least I’m not finding them.  Maybe nobody is posting today outside of this thread. :-P

Archives for April and May are still being moved over. I expect all stories to be up to date within the next few days.

Comments pre-upgrade are no longer available.

Letters to the editor should contain the date in the title, e.g., “Letters to the Editor, June 9, 2008.”

Moving forward it is our intention to link nearly all the stories on the site to a discussion forum. You will be able to access the discussion thread via a link in the story, or by visiting the forums directly. Each original thread post related to the story should include a link back to that story.

If you are interested you can start a discussion thread on any topic you want on the ‘Skagit Talks’ Forum. No longer are you restricted to the discussion as related to a story. If there is an issue in the communtiy that isn’t being reported in the paper, please take the opportunity to discuss it here.

We are still working some issues to get the site working properly including llinking the stories to the discussion forums.

Thank you for your continued interest in goskagit.com. And thank you for your patience as we work the wrinkles out of the new design.

It seems a little harder to comment on the news, however it’s easier to read

The new format for news as well as the forums is much better. I like how the forums are now a real message board with all the bells and whistles (including a spell-checker), and that you can post much longer messages.

Good work, Skagit Valley Herald! :-)

p.s. you can also add attachments?! Awesome!

Yes, I can see how it would be a nightmare to even attempt converting the old comment format into the new forum style. I think folks will get used to things here. Time marches on…

Yeah, thanks for the plethora of pop-up ads like the ones from casalemedia.  The old format didn’t toss your PC to the wolves.

Hi Lee,

We don’t use any pop-up type of advertising at all on goskagit.  Perhaps it’s because you’re clicking on some of the stories listed within the AP (Associated Press) area?  If so, you may very well get a pop-up ad but that is because you are being directed to the AP website and we don’t have any control on how they advertise.

Thanks,

For the most part, I like the new format.  HOWEVER....  in the “Classified” sections, they are all lumped together, not seperated by type like they had been.  ie., the jobs by type, the real estate by town, vehicles by brand, ect.  I miss that!

Kestrel,

Does this page display the classifieds in format that you like?

http://www.goskagit.com/classifieds/index

This page can be accessed by clicking on the “Classifieds” link located at the very top of every goskagit page or you can access via the ‘Marketplace’ page by clicking on “Browse Classifieds.”

Hope this addresses it for you. If not, let me know.

Thanks for the reply, Don.  It’s good to know that the goskagit site doesn’t use pop-ups.

I do miss the ease of navigating the other site....but the longer I’m exploring this new format, the less confusing it is becoming.  It took me quite a while to find where the comments and replies were at.  They used to be just dangling there at the end of a story :-)

Hi Lee,

I thought I’d let you know that your feedback resulted in us adding a “Discuss This Story” at the bottom of every article that is flagged for discussion in an attempt to make it easier for everyone to find the Discuss link.  Thanks!

What happened to the recent articles and discussion on the recycling facility in S-W?

Why is the SVH editorial “PUD’s quest for power” filed at two unique web pages?

Never mind… It got fixed...

Don’t see anywhere to start a topic in the Forum.

Hi Jiff,

Most of the forums only allow our staff and bloggers to start a new topic.  However, here in the Skagit Talks forum, anyone logged in as a goskagit member can start a new topic. Simply click the “New Topic” link at the top and bottom of the Skagit Talks forum or any thread within.

Hope that helps!
