Dancing a mainstay of the Highland Games

To watch Scottish Highland dancing is to experience a bit of Highland history.

Take, for instance, the Highland fling, in which lithe dancers deftly hop in one spot, their arms held high above their heads. The dance was meant to mimic the antics of a stag on a hillside, and was a victory dance that male soldiers performed on their battle shields.
