In addition to increasing the economic potential of the Dakota Creek Industries shipyard at the Port of Anacortes’ Pier 1, a major redevelopment project has driven environmental cleanup, shoreline restoration, utility upgrades and public access improvements.
While DCI, which leases the pier and some uplands from the port, is paying for the brunt of the project, spending upwards of $10 million so far, the port has contributed about $3 million for permitting, an environmental impact statement and mitigation work involving planting eelgrass in Fidalgo Bay in exchange for eelgrass affected in the DCI ship basin when dredging starts this week.Read the Full Story
