There’s hardly a more straightforward proposition for voters than the bond issue request that the Sedro-Woolley City Council is about to put before that city’s citizens: Approve the $2 million proposal and you get a firetruck, a ladder truck and a new fire station.

Vote Yes! for this cause to support our local Fire Department and Volunteer Fire Fighters.  This Proposition is looking forward for our town.

“National standards require the Fire Department to have a ladder truck to serve several dozen buildings in the City today”.

The Sedro Woolley City Council has had ample time years to put this in front of the voters. The High School has been here since 1904, United General has been here since 1965.  The “tall buildings” in our downtown area have been here since 1889.  And now at the worst possible time your asking voters to pay more taxes for something that should of been part of the Fire Dept many many years ago...Sedro Woolley will not grow until the “back woods” thinking of our city government is stopped!

The “tall buildings” in our downtown area have been here since 1889.

All those 1889 buildings you are talking about burned in the 1911 Fire. The town was rebuilt in brick and mortar in the late teens and early twenties.

And now at the worst possible time your asking voters to pay more taxes for something that should of been part of the Fire Dept many many years ago…

And for years, the SWFD has relied on Burlington Fire to send their ladder truck for firefighter support.  Standards do change, and become more stringent.

Yes, its not the best time for this measure to be on ballot, but tell when any tax request measure is?  But how many people knew it would be THIS BAD when the measures were drawn up?  $2.83/mo (on a $200k home) is not that much for any homeowner.  Thats less than a pack of cigarettes or latte a month. Not to mention, anybody over the age of 61 on a fixed income under $35k is eligible for exemptions to taxes like this.

This proposition is not just about a ladder truck, but replacing an outgoing engine (and saving money in the process).  Also a 2nd Fire Station that will accommodate future growth, both commercially & residentially.  SW Station #1 is one of single busiest station (not overall department) in county.

Please don’t punish the firefighters for your hatred towards the local government.  They are tax-paying citizens doing the best to make a difference in our community.
