Plans to lift Burlington out of the 100-year floodplain can wait no longer, Planning Director Margaret Fleek said Friday.

On Thursday, the city gave notice that it plans to bolster current levees, possibly build new ones and amend its urban growth area to accommodate added flood protection measures. The document, known as a determination of significance, lays the groundwork for Burlington to conduct an environmental review.

Burlington will become like New Orleans. The levees will not hold the flood water. The COE will raise the flood level and there is nothing that the city can do. Burlington is in the flood plain and the only way out is to move the city to some higher elevation. The skagit river will always be where she is at.

It’s easy for Scrugg to throw rocks, harder to see what the proposal actually is.

Hey Irty… I heard a statistic that you might be interested in… all the levees that failed recently were Reagan Era built and maintained. The New Deal levees are strong as an ox and just as solid as the day built!
Oh, that bridge collapse in Minnesota too… All chocked-up to mismanagement of our tax dollars in the hands of the republican’s grace.

Burlington will be just fine, thank you.
They have those cute little evacuation signs.
