Despite voiced support from Sedro-Woolley residents, the city of Sedro-Woolley has denied a garbage settlement proposed by Skagit County during Wednesday’s City Council meeting.

Skagit County suggested the agreement to city officials on Aug. 4.

It requested the city, Skagit County and Sedro-Woolley resident Annie Janicki agree to withdraw the city’s Mitigated Determination of Non Significance, and that all future solid waste locations be approved by the Solid Waste Governance Board at least until 2013 — the year the solid-waste agreement expires between the cities and county.

The settlement also proposed Janicki withdraw the appeal filed regarding her opinion of the city’s review process for the Deluxe building permit.

Great story in Saturday’s SVH that links here, but laughingly ridiculous.

The thought that the true, the patriotic Americans supporting the relocation of the Deluxe facility would remotely consider surrendering to Larry “Medvedev” McCarter’s charms is like…

*Vladimir Putin’s face not saying “I’m a K-G-B brat” (like Philip Serka, Deluxe’s attorney does say that).
*John McCain dying his hair and taking drugs and singing Kumbaya.
*Barack Obama acknowledging “The Surge” worked and 100% supporting our troops.
*The Skagit Valley Herald having a conservative editorial board.
*Chris Gregoire telling the truth about taxes.
*Dino Rossi not being slick.

You sort of get the point.  After all, it’s time we had our own “condemnation conversation"…

Aaah, a Deluxe Spokeshole speaks.

I think we know the facts:

#1. More traffic near a high school.
#2. Much, much more noise next to a high school.
#3. Possible odors next to a high school.
#4. Local gov’t having a “condemnation conversation” to help a company.
#5. The community has a right to say no, as per basic American, democratic values.  Even if they decide to accept liability, that is their choice to live with the consequences.

All true patriots are Sedro-Woolley High School Cubs today and in the difficult days ahead to restore our democracy & liberty, just as we are Georgians.  We expect the aggressors to leave and leave immediately.

It is simply too late for this facility to be placed next to a high school with community support.  The time for that has long ago expired.

Here’s another thought…

In a year, the S-W City Council will have some of its positions up for election.  All we really have to do to stop this dump is to hold on and fight on for a year and a half to get a majority of City Councilors who will terminate this site, if it gets to that point.  I doubt very, very seriously anything less than relocation will be accepted.

This is parody, right?  Please tell me you didn’t write this with a straight face.

Just about a straight face.  About 90% with one, 10% with a bit of a smirk.  It’s just the thugocracy of the Deluxe Dump people and their sycophants has gotten to me…

Then what will the new council do? How does the City stop a Deluxe when the property is zoned for it? As PM Hayden said, the toothpaste is out of the tube. The County is the one that can stop them with their Health Department and Solid Waste Governance Board. Sedro’s rezoning starts at the planning commission level and should be happening now. Do you go out to someone who bought some property in good faith, maybe at multi-family zoning and downzone to residential? Same with Industrial zoned property throughout Sedro you rezone and cost the owners thousands? Yea, I’m going to love to see some council try that and see how fast they get sued. Talk about getting people pissed.

Right, and the County Gov’t will most certainly be under immense pressure to do the right thing and require an EIS before the facility can open, among other things.  The County Gov’t also represents the constituents caught in the middle of this maelstrom, plus a responsibility to protect all Skagitonians from a naked grab for resources & revenue.

Plus the Council will be cleaned out - if this continues ad naseum and rezoning will occur.  Granted, it’s not a preferable outcome.
