Alger Community Church will be hosting a candle-light vigil on its grounds on
Friday, September 6 at 8pm to commemorate and mourn the loss of those who were
killed in our community on September 2. This will take place outdoors on our
grounds, and is open to the public.

We invite everyone in the Alger community and all others who are affected by
this violence. We also extend a special and warm invitation to all Skagit County
Sheriff’s deputies, Washington State Patrol, all EMS and Cascade Dispatch
workers and local volunteer firefighters, as well as anyone else who has been
involved in responding to, or investigating these painful crimes.

Alger Community Church is located just off Old Hwy 99, one quarter mile north of
the intersection of Lake Sammish road and Old Hwy 99N.  Address is 1475 Silver Run Lane, and phone is (360) 724-5211.

It was a sad night but I would like to thank Rich, his family, church members as well as Alger Bar and Grill for providing so much love and comfort. It is not easy to deal with the
the tragic events of this week but I found some healing in sharing that sorrow openly
with the community.  I don’t know Rich or his family very well but I think we should also pray for pastors, church leaders, mental health workers, medical workers, firemen,
law enforcement, social workers, teachers, judges, county and city workers who are setting a side their grief to support others in their healing. At the church on Friday, flyers were given out “signs and symptoms to be aware of for emergency workers” that applies to all of us including those we lean on.  I hope all of us can look for those signs in each other and that includes the rocks we lean on.  This is truly a time to pay attention to each other, if you see someone and sense for a even the slightest moment they need a hug, a touch on the hand, or an ear to listen. DO pay attention.  The shock is starting to wear off and soon feelings of disorientation may set in for many. These symptoms can be physical, cognitive or emotional. We are a much larger community than the towns we live ...We are a Skagit Community, and right now we are much in the same boat.  So many to care for.. and I hope we stand up and and support one another when the front lines need to break and be supported.  There is much pain to overcome, and so when pain gives you a moments rest, give some support where it is needed. I pray for the families and community at large.
