Forum Help

Welcome to the goskagit.com forum help. Perhaps you've been looking at the message index or a screen telling you that you need to register before you can comment and you're wondering what to do next? These help pages will guide you through most issues you might have when using our forums. Let's get started with the basics:

Page Topics:    Forum Index · Message Index · The Topic

Forum Index

While the forum index (the forum home page) is packed with all kinds of information and links, the core of the interface looks like this:

  1. This is the name and description of a forum category; a group of message boards based on a similar theme. Clicking the small minus image on the far left will collapse/expand the category.
  2. This is the name, description and list of moderators of each message board.
    • Clicking on the board name will take you to that boards list of topics.
    • Clicking any moderators name will take you to their profile where you may then private message them with any questions or concerns you may have.
    • The small icon on the far left indicates if there are any new topics or posts that you have not yet read.
  3. These columns show how many topics are in a given message board as well as how many replies.
  4. The 'Latest Post Info' column shows you the latest post made onto the message board as well as the time it was made and who made it.
    • Clicking on the topic title will take you to the last unread post in the topic.
    • Clicking on the author will take you to that member's profile.
  5. At the bottom of the forum index page is a large list of statistics. Members that have opted to not have their name displayed will not be viewable. Clicking on any member name will take you to that member's profile.

Message Index

Like the forum index, the message index interface is quite straightforward when reduced to its essential components:

  1. The 'breadcrumb' showing you where within the forums you are. Click on any link in the breadcrumb to be taken to that page.
  2. Most message boards will have many pages of topics that have been posted and discussed. This area allows you to quickly move from page to page.
  3. Clicking the 'New Topic' image will allow you to create a new topic for public discussion. Some boards have this option while some do not. Furthermore, only registered members may create new topics.
  4. Each row represents a topic. The icon on the far left indicates the status of the topic.
    • Clicking on the title of the topic will take you to the topic's page where the discussion can be viewed.
    • The author listed under the topic title is the member that started the topic while the member listed as author in the 'Latest Post Info' is the last member to post on the topic. Clicking on the either author will take you to that member's profile page.
  5. At the bottom of each message board is a search field. Searching via this field will return results from only the message board you're in. To broaden your search for the entire forums, or to seek advanced search options, please see the Search help section.
  6. This is the legend of icons that indicate the status of a topic, found on the far left column of each topic.

The Topic

Sometimes referred to as threads, topics are where you find the actual messages:

  1. Here logged-in registered members may post a reply to the discussion at hand. You may also subscribe to the topic meaning anytime a new post is created in the topic, you will be emailed.
  2. This shows various information on the member posting a reply. Clicking on either the member's name or the 'Profile' option will take you to the member's profile page.
    • Clicking on 'PM' will allow you to send the member a private message. More information on private messaging can be found in the Private Messaging help section.
  3. As a member of the goskait forums, you can report an abusive post or choose to ignore all posts by the member by clicking the appropriate link.
  4. If you would like to address a specific section of a members post, you can click the 'Quote' image. Quoting is covered in more detail in the Posting help section.
  5. At the bottom of every topic is two options for replying. The 'Fast Reply' option opens a window directly below the topic allowing you to make a quick post. The 'Post Reply' will open a new page where you can make your reply but with much more options available such as font formatting, smilies, etc.
