MOUNT VERNON — The Sedro-Woolley Little League 11-12 softball all-stars left little doubt who should be taking the District 11 title to this weekend’s state tournament in Walla Walla.
The Sedro-Woolley all-stars beat Anacortes 17-5 on Tuesday at Bakerview Park to win the title, finishing the district tournament unbeaten.
In three games — all stopped after four innings by the 10-run rule — Sedro-Woolley outscored its opponents 53-12.
“The girls did a good job all tournament,” Sedro-Woolley coach Lisa Mast said. “They came to play, and they did.”
Sedro-Woolley took control of this one right away, scoring seven times in the first inning. Cassidy Mast led off the inning with a triple and capped the rally with a two-run single. Tiffanie Mathews had a two-run single.
Mast, Mathews and Ana Young each had RBI singles in the second as Sedro-Woolley opened a 10-0 lead.
After Anacortes closed within eight at 11-3, Sedro-Woolley regained its double-digit advantage with six runs in the fourth. Alexis Baldwin’s blooper just beyond second was the only hit in the rally.
Kalia Greenough threw a complete game for Sedro-Woolley, striking out five.
Brittany Miller, Maddie Welch and Kayla Matthews each had two hits for Anacortes. Matthews scored twice, and Welch had an RBI double.
Now Sedro-Woolley heads to Walla Walla for the Little League Softball 11-12 State Tournament. Sedro-Woolley’s first game is Saturday.
“We got to go last year,” Lisa Mast said. “To do it two years in a row is very exciting.”
