Burlington-Edison’s Nathan Power sprints to the finish line during the Class 2A state meet Saturday in Pasco. Power finished eighth as the Tigers topped Sehome for the state title.

PASCO — For the third time in four years the Burlington-Edison boys’ cross country team is the Class 2A state champion.

Burlington-Edison had three runners in the top 10 Saturday at the State Cross Country Championships at Sun Willows Golf Course on its way to 57 team points and the state title.

Tyler Williams was the top runner for the Tigers, finishing third in 16 minutes, 1 second on the 5,000-meter course. Antonio Morales (sixth, 16:16) and Nathan Power (eighth, 16:23) also finished in the top 10 for Burlington-Edison.

Connor Whan (19th, 16:37) and Alan DenAdel (29th, 16:49) were the other scoring runners for Burlington-Edison.

The Tigers, as they have done all season, topped Northwest Conference opponent Sehome for the title.

The Mariners finished with 85 team points and had the overall winner in Scott Carlyle (15:47). Another Northwest Conference team, Squalicum, was third (106). Lakewood (139) and Ellensburg (170) rounded out the top five.

W.F. West, which finished ninth, was the only other team to have more than one runner finish in the top 10.

Burlington-Edison and Sehome have battled for the Class 2A title for the past four years. The Tigers won state titles in 2006 and 2007 while the Mariners claimed the 2008 title.

The teams tied in 2007, but the Tigers won the title because their sixth runner finished ahead of Sehome’s.

Burlington-Edison also beat Sehome in the Northwest Conference and Northwest 2A District meets this season.
