Katie Demme has wrapped up a successful first season of softball with the Pierce College Raiders.
The 2007 graduate of Burlington-Edison was named to the Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges West Region first team. She was one of five Raiders to earn the honor.
Demme was described by Duncan Stevenson, director of district athletics and recreation at Pierce College, as a rock-solid left fielder who swung a swift bat.
Demme batted .419, boasted a .721 slugging percentage and amassed 12 doubles, three triples and eight home runs. She scored 48 runs, stole eight stolen and had 37 RBI.
The Raiders finished 28-2 in NWAACC, claiming the West Division title for the second consecutive year. It was the most wins by a Pierce team in school history.
The Raiders’ stay at the NWAACC Tournament as a top seed, however, was short-lived. Pierce won its opener, defeating Shoreline 3-2, then was defeated by eventual champion Lower Columbia 11-8. The Raiders were eliminated by Blue Mountain, which handed them a 10-2 defeat.
