Blake Froling was at his best Nov. 8-9.
The Mount Vernon graduate beat six other golfers to win a match-play event at the Golf Academy of America.
Ranked seventh headed into the tournament, Froling trailed on only two holes in the tournament — at the start of his first match.
From then on, he was in control.
Over his final two match-play matches, Froling beat the past two champions of the Golf Academy of America event.
Froling has a golf handicap of zero.
The Golf Academy of America was formerly called San Diego Golf Academy.

Welling has strong finish
Jordan Welling earned All-America honors Saturday at the 2008 NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships.
Welling, a Burlington-Edison graduate, is a sophomore at Western Washington.
He placed 23rd at the national meet in Slippery Rock, Pa., finishing the 10-kilometer course in 32 minutes, 2 seconds.
Western’s men’s team placed 10th.
Hansen wraps up season
Lauren Hansen finished a strong season for the Utah State women’s soccer team.
The Stanwood graduate, a college sophomore, scored two goals in the Western Athletic Conference tournament.
She scored in Utah State’s 1-0 semifinal win over Boise State, then scored in a 2-1 double-overtime loss to Fresno State in the tournament finals.
Hansen was named to the WAC all-tournament team.
Utah State finished 13-8-1.
