Travis Hofkamp played in four football games this season at Dakota State University.
The Burlington-Edison graduate is a 6-1, 200-pound freshman linebacker at the Madison, S.D., school.
In his four games, Hofkamp had seven unassisted tackles and one assisted tackle.
Anacortes’ Kyle Dixon, who is also at Dakota State, did not play this season. He is a quarterback at the school.
Dakota State was 3-7 this season.
Beseau swimming at Evansville
Kassandra Beseau is swimming for the University of Evansville.
The 2008 Anacortes graduate, a college freshman, has competed in all of the Purple Aces’ meets this season.
Among her better finishes are third in the 100 butterfly against Southern Illinois (1 minutes, 1.18 seconds), third in the 200 individual medley against Missouri State and Illinois State (2:14.67) and third in the 200 butterfly against Eastern Illinois (2:20.35).
Beseau was a state butterfly champion at Anacortes.
Smollack competes in regional
Oak Harbor graduate Mietra Smollack placed 115th Saturday at the NCAA Western Regional cross country meet in Stanford, Calif.
The Washington State freshman had a time of 22 minutes, 21.48 seconds on the 6,000-meter course.
Also at the regional, Kyle King, a Coupeville grad who ran with Smollack at Oak Harbor, was 157th while running for Eastern Washington.
Two weeks before the regional, Smollack placed 61st at the Pac-10 Conference meet.
Smollack had a time of 21 minutes, 53.56 seconds on the 6,000-meter Springfield Country Club course in Springfield, Ore.
Anacortes grad Danny Lindstrom did not run for the Washington State men’s team at the Pac-10 meet or the Western Regional.
Area players get set for season
Adam Wardell and Jake Anderson are warming up for the college basketball season.
Wardell, a Sedro-Woolley graduate, and Anderson, a Burlington-Edison grad, are playing for Seattle Pacific.
Wardell is 6-2 junior guard and Anderson a 6-6 freshman forward.
The pair played in the Falcons’ three exhibition games — against California, Stanford and Saint Mary’s.
Wardell averaged 0.7 points in 11.7 minutes a game, while Anderson scored 1.7 points in 4.3 minutes per game.
Wardell heads into the season after averaging 2.1 points, 1.5 rebounds and 1.1 assists last year.
The Falcons open their regular season Friday against the University of Mary.
Warner takes regional honors
Burlington-Edison graduate Katie Warner has been named a Daktronics Far West Region All-Star first-teamer.
Warner is a senior defender for the Western Washington women’s soccer team.
