While the Anacortes Parks and Recreation Department has operated Grand View Cemetery since it was deeded to the city in 1945, three commissioners oversee the operations and management of Cemetery District 2 on South Fidalgo and March Point, and three more oversee Cemetery District 3 on Guemes Island.
Up for re-election this year in District 2 is John Pinquoch. Walter Deaton’s term ends in December 2011 and Lyle Mooney’s term ends in December 2013.
Michael Jackets of District 3 is up for re-election this year, while Dixon Elder serves until December 2011 and Fred Sievers serves until December 2013.
Voters will vote for candidates running in their particular district in the Nov. 3 general election
The commissioners serve six-year terms to regulate their districts under chapter 68.52 of the Revised Code of Washington that dictates everything from morgues to preparing budgets.
