Elementary school students throughout Anacortes are asked for their input in developing a slogan and artwork showing the advantages of recycling for the city.
“Our hope is that we will have some creative young minds help us in getting the word out about recycling and how it can benefit all of us here in beautiful Anacortes,” said Shelly Jensen, city operations administrative manager.
Deadline for the recycling slogan contest is Friday, June 13. Winners will be notified the week of June 16.
The contest is open to all Anacortes elementary school students. Only one entry per student. Slogans and artwork should be submitted on 8.5-by-11-inch paper and turned into school administrators. Entrees should include the student’s name, age, school, address and phone number on the back of the design.
Awards in three categories — best slogan, most artistic and inspirational — will be given at a City Council meeting where the winners can shake hands with Mayor Dean Maxwell. The artwork will appear on the city’s Web site, solid waste trucks and TV Channel 10.
