A 13-year-old Anacortes boy was arrested and booked into Skagit County juvenile detention after he allegedly defaced Storvik Park and several area businesses with graffiti.
The boy, who claimed gang affiliation, reportedly spray painted the number 13 and other items on the new playground and restrooms at the park as well as on other area buildings.
The park graffiti was quickly removed by the City of Anacortes Parks Department. The boy faces a charge of malicious mischief.

Saturday, Aug. 16
• A 24-year-old Renton man was cited for public indecency after an officer on patrol spotted him urinating on a building in the 1000 block of Fifth Street just before 2 a.m. The officer noted there were numerous people around as the downtown establishments were closing. The man apologized, telling the officer he “just had to go.”
• A 20-year-old Anacortes man may face a charge of burglary after he entered a marina in the 3100 block of V Avenue and was found rummaging around on a boat just after 3 a.m. A boat owner found the young man aboard his boat and called police. The man appeared to be under the influence of hallucinogenic drugs. The man told officers he ate some mushrooms. After ensuring the man was not in need of medical assistance officers released him to a family member. The investigation continues.
• Officers are investigating a residential burglary in the 4000 block of Anaco Beach Road. Thieves entered the residence through an apparently unlocked door and stole three digital cameras, silver dollars, an antique hatchet and some prescription medication.
• Two boys, 12 and 13, face charges of theft after a man reported they took a bag from a motorcycle parked in the 1300 block of Commercial Avenue. The owner of the bag said he saw the boys take the bag off of the unattended motorcycle.
After making the report, the victim saw the two boys at the skate park and called police. The bag and contents, which included a laptop computer, were recovered and the boys admitted their involvement.
• A 19-year-old Bellingham man was arrested on charges of shoplifting for stealing beer, malt liquor and cookies valued at $27 from a grocery in the 900 block of 11th Street. Store employees saw the theft and detained the man until police arrived. The officer noted the man was intoxicated.
Monday, Aug. 18
• A resident on Patricia Lane turned in some opened mail that was found along the street. The mail belonged to a resident of the 1700 block of 39th Street. It appeared someone stole the mail from the box, opened it, removed information from it and dumped it.
• A 25-year-old Anacortes woman reported her estranged husband had been calling her in violation of a domestic violence protection order. She played phone messages her husband left on her cell phone for an officer and said he also has been trying to get messages to her through her family members. None of the messages were threatening.
Officers found the 39-year-old Sedro-Woolley man later in the evening. He admitted calling his estranged wife and was cited for violating the order.
• A 23-year-old Anacortes woman was arrested on a charge of assault after she allegedly hit her boyfriend with a rearview mirror she broke off his car. A witness told officers the woman was in the vehicle alone when she began kicking the windshield and breaking off the mirror at the campground in Washington Park where the two were camping. She reportedly got out of the vehicle and struck her boyfriend in the face with the mirror. Aid was summoned to attend to the man’s injury.
Tuesday, Aug. 19
• Youth cheerleaders lost their pompoms at Storvik Park on Tuesday, Aug. 12. The eight sets of purple and silver pompoms were valued at more than $100. They were inadvertently left at the park after practice in a gray Rubbermaid tub.
• A 23-year-old Anacortes woman was arrested on a charge of domestic assault after she allegedly attacked her live-in boyfriend. Officers responded to a domestic call where the 26-year-old man claimed she assaulted him and pulled the phone cord out of the wall. Officers noted the man had scratch marks on his arms and neck. The woman denied the assault.
Wednesday, Aug. 20
• A resident in the 1300 block of Broadview reported power tools worth several hundred dollars were taken from inside a garage overnight. The garage door had inadvertently been left open.
• A $1,000 men’s custom BMX bike was stolen from outside a residence in the 1700 block of 12th Street sometime in the last two days. The owner left the bike unsecured.
• Sailing and BMX cycling equipment worth several thousand dollars and a laptop computer were taken from a home in the 3200 block of West Third Street sometime during the day. Officers collected physical evidence from the scene and are following up on the investigation.
Thursday, Aug. 21
• A woman who works nights in the 3000 block of Commercial Avenue found someone had stolen the battery from her vehicle overnight. The vehicle was parked in the 1000 block of 30th Street and it appears thieves just unlatched the hood and stole the battery.
• A resident in the 1500 block of 39th Street awoke to find that someone had entered his unlocked residence overnight and taken a backpack and its contents, including the man’s ID, debit card, assorted gift cards and cell phone. There are no suspects.
