About $8,500 in cash, checks and credit card receipts were reported stolen from a restaurant in the 500 block of Commercial Avenue.

The restaurant owner reported she arrived for work and found an exterior door unlocked just before 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 25. She then checked inside and found the money missing. A spare key to the business is also missing. 

The investigation continues.

Friday, Nov. 21

• A former Anacortes man who now lives in Lakeland, Fla., reported the theft of 38 commercial crab pots worth $10,000 from storage lockers at a marina in the 1000 block of Q Avenue. The victim was in the process of selling the pots to another commercial fisherman who was not suspected in the theft. The victim gave the name of a possible suspect and contact with the man is pending.

• A resident of the 3900 block of R Avenue reported someone broke into the canopy of his pickup and stole a $180 VHF radio, a $180 handheld GPS unit, a set of foul weather gear for sailing valued at $1,000 and a pair of $100 rubber boots. The theft was believed to have occurred several days earlier when the victim found the handle to his truck canopy was broken. 

Saturday, Nov. 22

• Officers contacted a 21-year-old Guemes Island woman at Island Hospital’s emergency room about a possible assault around 11:30 p.m. The woman said she was at a party in the 1000 block of Sixth Street when she was assaulted by a woman she did not know. At the party, she said she gently tapped a former high school acquaintance on the face to inquire if he remembered her. She said the other woman approached and told her nobody messes with him.

The victim said the other woman punched her and got on top of her and began to beat her. She said the fight was broken up and she went outside, but the other woman attacked and punched her again.

Officers spoke with the party host, who said the woman at the hospital was asked to leave after slapping the man. She said the woman at the hospital caused the fight by punching the other woman first. Contact with the second woman is pending. The investigation continues.

• A Sedro-Woolley man reported the theft of a Ford pickup parked behind a bar in the 400 block of Commercial Avenue. The man said he left the pickup overnight and when he returned in the morning it was gone. A computer check showed the vehicle was impounded by the Washington State Patrol after it was found abandoned near Bradshaw Road and Memorial Highway in the early morning hours.

• An employee of a business in the 1900 block of Commercial Avenue reported a hit and run accident to her 2006 Scion while the car was parked in the 1000 block of 20th Street. The car had a broken taillight and body damage around the taillight.

• An officer working traffic safety attempted to stop a pickup that was speeding and making unsignaled turns on Thompson Road around 11:45 p.m. The officer found the pickup unoccupied at a house in the 12900 block of Thompson Road and contacted a 21-year-old man at the house who admitted he was driving it. The man smelled of intoxicants and he said he had a “few beers” earlier with friends. The man performed poorly on field sobriety tests. He provided two breath samples significantly over the legal limit.

Sunday, Nov. 23

• Vandals caused more than $3,000 in damage to the Skyline Beach Club cabana on Cabana Lane. A neighbor found the damage on his morning walk around 7:30 a.m. Three picnic tables were thrown and broken on the rocks, sliding door screens were slashed and at least three sliding windows were shattered by large rocks. Two large propane tanks were also tipped over and their lines snapped, causing propane to leak. Other windows were scratched and a wooden gate was torn from its hinges and was missing. Nothing appeared to be missing from inside the building.

• Two neighbors in the 2200 block of H Avenue had the driver’s side mirrors to their pickups shattered. Estimated repair costs are $40 each.

• An 18-year-old Yakima man was arrested on a charge of possession of marijuana after an officer stopped his car for speeding on Highway 20 near R Avenue around 9:15 p.m. When asked for registration and insurance information, the driver began to look through a stack of papers. He unfolded one document and the officer saw what appeared to be a moderate amount of loose marijuana inside the paperwork. When the officer reached for the document and contents, the driver said it was not his and a friend left it in the car. The driver was also cited for speeding.

Monday, Nov. 24

• A resident in the 2400 block of 26th Street reported she woke up and saw a man get into a truck parked in her driveway and begin rummaging around at about 3:15 a.m. She keyed the panic alarm to the car, which caused the suspect to jump into an older car and flee. She provided a description of the suspect.

About half an hour later, a Skagit County Sheriff’s deputy stopped the suspect vehicle on Highway 20 near Thompson Road. A male passenger in the car matched the description of the suspect. The victim positively identified the car and also reported she was missing a gate activator for her housing complex. The suspect, a 33-year-old Mount Vernon man, and the driver, a 22-year-old Burlington woman, were booked into jail for investigation of vehicle prowl.

Tuesday, Nov. 25

• The owner of a car rental business in the 900 block of 25th Street reported a man rented a Chevy Lumina using a bad credit card and had not returned the car by the contracted date. The owner checked a business where the man said he was going to start work but learned he had not come to work.

Wednesday, Nov. 26

• Police are looking for a 46-year-old Anacortes man after receiving a 911 call from an apartment around 9:30 p.m. about a domestic assault. A woman reported her ex-boyfriend entered her apartment and slapped her.

• Officers responded to a local establishment in the 400 block of Commercial Ave. after two men scuffled with a bouncer just before 10:45 p.m. Officers were told a 27-year-old Anacortes man was asked to leave the bar and he and his 59-year-old father had a minor scuffle with the bouncer. The two left the bar but officers caught up with them and warned them to stay out of the tavern.

Thursday, Nov. 27

• A 57-year-old Anacortes woman faces a charge of DUI for the second time in a week after officers received several calls about her white Camero as it headed west on Highway 20 from the casino area around 11:15 a.m. The car struck a curb and the right front tire popped, but continued on the rim until the driver pulled off at the viewpoint. Containers of alcohol were found in the vehicle. The woman was arrested and transported to the police department for a Breathalyzer test.

• A resident in the 2600 block of View Place reported two vehicle tires were slashed. It is unknown when the damage occurred.

• A man allegedly stealing car parts at a wrecking yard in the 9000 block of Padilla Heights Road left with less than he started with. The owner heard noises in the lot and found the suspect’s truck filled with car parts. Police arrived and a witness identified the suspect, who fled on foot. The car was impounded and officers will serve a search warrant on it.

• Police were called to the 3800 block of M Avenue around 8:30 p.m. after a resident reported a man was pounding on their front door and yelling for more than 10 minutes. Officers contacted a 28-year-old man who claimed he was invited over for Thanksgiving. The resident knew the man but had not invited him. The man did have an invitation from Mount Vernon police, who wanted him in connection with a recent burglary in their city. He was arrested and turned over to Mount Vernon officers.

• A resident in the 2200 block of Meadow Lane reported a purse was taken from an unlocked car in her garage on Nov. 26. Officers are following up after a card from the purse was used.

• A 24-year-old Anacortes man was arrested after a woman reported her ex-boyfriend knocked over a barbecue and threw a lawn chair at her back door when she would not answer. The man left before officers arrived. A couple hours later, his roommate reported the man was at their apartment causing problems. Officers arrested the man. He allegedly threatened that if his roommate called the police he would physically harm her. He faces charges of domestic malicious mischief and harassment.
