A 48-year-old Mount Vernon woman was cited for driving with a suspended driver’s license after she was stopped by police for investigation of stealing the car she was driving around 12:45 a.m. Saturday, May 30.

The Anacortes man who owns the car reported the woman took his car without permission after she accompanied him to his house. She allegedly admitted taking the car, but only because the man refused to give her a ride home.

The two were socializing at a local casino where the man won a significant amount of money. They then went to his house to have a few drinks. The man later found he was missing some money from his wallet.

Officers found the money on the woman, but the man said he did not want to pursue theft charges if she returned the cash. It was returned.

Friday, May 29

• A Mount Vernon man reported the theft of a pneumatic finish nailer and a miter saw from a home in the 2000 block of I Avenue. The victim was suspicious of a man who moved property out of the house the previous weekend.

• Three Anacortes adults were cited around 2:45 p.m. for consuming alcohol at Whistle Lake in violation of park regulations. They said they didn’t see the signs at the entry gate to the access trail.

• A woman who took her laptop computer to a business in the 600 block of Commercial Avenue for service work was told by an employee her computer was stolen from a desk at the business. The woman also reported she received a suspicious phone call from an unknown man asking for her computer password. When the woman started asking the man questions, he hung up. The theft is under investigation.

• An Anacortes woman’s purse was stolen from a table at a lounge in the 7600 block of Highway 20 around 11:15 p.m. The woman left it unattended for a short time. A witness saw another woman pick up the purse, rummage through it and then leave the bar with it. The victim tried to call the suspect, whom she knew, but the suspect hung up and would not answer her phone again. Police are attempting to contact the suspect.

• A clerk at a business in the 2400 block of Commercial Avenue reported he was threatened by an unknown man who entered the business and told the clerk he would make him disappear if he didn’t stop calling the man’s girlfriend. The clerk said he had no idea who the man was and he vaguely knew the man’s girlfriend from long ago.

Saturday, May 30

• A witness reported seeing a Honda Civic collide with a pickup traveling north on Commercial Avenue and then flee the scene around 8:15 a.m. The pickup driver was uninjured but his vehicle was significantly damaged. Suspect information led officers to a house in the 500 block of Hillcrest Drive. They spoke with a 24-year-old man who was obviously intoxicated. He denied driving the Honda and said he was playing beer pong all night.

Officers found the freshly damaged Honda in the garage. The man then allegedly said he might have been involved in an accident, but he couldn’t remember because he might have blacked out, then asked, “Is the guy okay?” He was arrested on charges of hit and run and negligent driving and booked into jail.

• A 24-year-old Renton man was stopped for speeding on Commercial Avenue just before 11 p.m. The driver smelled of alcohol and fumbled for his documents. The man failed sobriety tests and was arrested on a charge of DUI. Some of the man’s friends stopped at the scene and told the officer they tried to stop him from driving because he drank too much. He provided two breath samples about three and a half times the legal limit. He was cited and released to sober friends.

• A man reported his 2009 Toyota was dented by a motorcyclist at the intersection of 41st Street and H Avenue just before 11 p.m. The man said he was stopped at the stop sign and the motorcycle pulled up next to him and slapped his window. He then heard a loud noise and later found a fist-sized dent in the fender. The man provided a general description of the motorcyclist.

• A 26-year-old Anacortes man was cited for driving with a suspended driver’s license after an officer recognized him driving near the state ferry terminal. The same vehicle had been reported driving erratically at the ferry terminal.

Sunday, May 31

• An officer stopped a car driven by a 33-year-old Anacortes man in the 1600 block of 12th Street for speeding and weaving in the roadway. The man said he was weaving because he dropped his cell phone, but he smelled of intoxicants. He performed poorly on field sobriety tests and was arrested on a charge of DUI. He was taken to the police station where he declined to provide breath samples. He was cited and released to sober adults.

• A number of vehicles were egged in the Skyline area. An empty egg carton was found at the corner of Doon and Cay ways.

Monday, June 1

• A woman reported her Social Security check was stolen from her car parked in front of her home in the 3300 block of West Third Street. No one was seen around the car and the woman was told to call and cancel the check.

• A seafood business in the 8900 block of Stevenson Road was burglarized. The owner found loose change on the floor and the change drawer missing from the counter. It was believed the burglar entered through an unsecured window. The business was missing about $15 in change.

• Officers spoke with a 51-year-old Anacortes man who allegedly harassed his ex-girlfriend at the restaurant where she works in the 1300 block of Commercial Avenue. The woman said she was in an argument with the man, but didn’t want to make an issue of it. The woman’s employer reported he was tired of the man’s frequent antics, and he was trespassed from the business.

Tuesday, June 2

• Ten six-volt marine batteries worth about $1,200 were stolen from a pallet outside the back door of a yacht charter business in the 3000 block of R Avenue. Security camera footage showed the suspect vehicle is a gold full-sized Chevy extended cab pickup occupied by two white males with a medium-size dog. the men loaded the batteries into the bed of the pickup.

• A $1,000 gold and diamond ring was reported stolen from a house in the 4600 block of Hickory Drive. The victim and a service employee who worked at the home gave the name of a possible suspect. Two bracelets also stolen from the house were returned to the victim’s mailbox earlier after the suspect was confronted.

• The renter of an apartment in the 900 block of Fourth Street found wood around her front door doorknob broken off in an apparent burglary attempt. No entry was gained.

• A car parked in the 2300 block of Commercial Avenue had its rear window shattered. A small rock-sized hole was found in the damaged area and it was uncertain whether the damage was intentional or caused by a passing vehicle.

• There was no sign of forced entry to a vehicle that was reported prowled in the 2200 block of 10th Street. The vehicle was rummaged through, but nothing appeared to be missing.

Wednesday, June 3

• Officers contacted two 18-year-old Anacortes men in Grand View Cemetery after a witness reported seeing them fighting. One of the men had a bloody and scratched face. He told officers he and his best friend had just been talking and he hit himself in the face. The other man had bloody knuckles but also said his friend hit himself. The witness confirmed both men hit each other. They were cited for disorderly conduct and one of the men was also cited for underage drinking.

• A 16-year-old girl who was a juvenile runaway out of Oak Harbor was located at an apartment. The girl was taken to the police station where her mother picked her up.

• A 17-year-old Bellingham girl was arrested on a warrant for underage drinking and possession of drug charges. She was booked into juvenile detention. A 19-year-old Anacortes man and a 20-year-old Anacortes woman who were passengers in her car also had arrest warrants. They were given new court dates and released due to jail overcrowding.

Thursday, June 4

• A Burlington man who inadvertently left his wallet in his pickup while he was in a convenience store in the 1100 block of 12th Street found the wallet was stolen around 1:30 a.m. The man left the driver’s door window down. The wallet contained his driver’s license, credit cards, and about $50 in cash. Officers are trying to identify occupants of a vehicle that was parked next to the victim’s pickup at the time of the theft.

• Officers contacted a 19-year-old Anacortes man and two of his friends after a witness reported they were smoking marijuana while floating on inner tubes at Little Cranberry Lake. The man allegedly admitted smoking marijuana in the woods earlier and turned over a marijuana smoking pipe to the officer. He was cited for possession of drug paraphernalia and released.

• Security at a local casino reported an intoxicated woman ignored requests that she not drive when she left the casino around 7:40 p.m. An officer saw the woman’s vehicle on R Avenue weaving over the fog line and center line. She traveled about a half mile with her turn signal flashing after the officer activated the car’s lights to stop her. The driver, a 54-year-old Anacortes woman, twice handed the officer a boat registration when asked for vehicle paperwork. She allegedly admitted having two drinks while taking prescription pain medication. She was arrested on a charge of DUI. She provided breath samples twice the legal limit and was cited.

• A homeowner in the 3700 block of West Fourth Street returned home to find someone tried to pry open a locked door on the house. A screwdriver was found on the ground near the door. It did not appear entry was made into the home. 

Friday, June 5

• Greetings cards, a wicker chair, a porcelain doll and other assorted items left outside of a residence in the 2200 block of 12th Street for a pending estate sale were reported stolen. Total value is $130.

• A resident of the 2300 block of 15th Street reported he was missing about $50 in coins from his locked bedroom and his son was missing a $330 iPod. The man said his son had company, and the items were missing after the friends left.
