A 40-year-old Anacortes man was arrested on charges of DUI twice in one night — both times providing breath samples almost three times the legal limit.

An officer stopped the man’s car for improper lane travel at the intersection of 11th Street and O Avenue just after midnight Saturday, Nov. 1. He had a suspended license and showed signs of being intoxicated.

The man allegedly admitted he drank that night. He declined to perform field sobriety tests, but when he climbed out of his car barefoot, he fell back against it.

During a search of the man’s car the officer found a marijuana pipe and an unopened bottle of whiskey. The man was arrested and provided breath samples almost three times the legal limit. The man also faces charges of driving with a suspended license and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was released to his father around 1:30 a.m. and told not to drive again.

About an hour and a half later, officers responded to a report of a man beating on the door of a house trying to get in. When officers arrived, they saw the same man previously arrested backing out of the driveway.

The man allegedly was shouting at his girlfriend, who was inside the house. A resident of the house said he drove past it, turned around and pulled into the driveway.

Based upon the man’s alcohol level and the short amount of time since his previous arrest, he was again arrested. The man was very unsteady on his feet. A search of his car revealed the same whiskey bottle found earlier but it was open and empty.

The man again provided breath samples almost three times the legal limit. He was booked into jail on charges of DUI and driving with a suspended license.

The animal control officer responded and took the dog. The man had no verification of the dog’s vaccination record and was told the dog would be quarantined for 10 days. The man allegedly said he did not want the dog back. He said the child was standing near the dog when it was being fed and the dog barked at the child. When the child continued to try to pet the dog, it bit him.  The child was taken to the emergency room for treatment.

• A resident of the 1000 block of 28th Street reported the theft of three different prescription medications belonging to his roommate. The man said he checked with neighbors and learned an acquaintance of his had been in the neighborhood earlier in the day.
