A 35-year-old Anacortes man was sent a court summons on domestic assault and hit and run charges after several witnesses reported seeing him and his 38-year-old girlfriend fighting in their car around 1:32 p.m. Friday, Oct. 16.
A witness reported seeing the car door fly open and a female driver punching a male passenger while it was traveling on 29th Street. The man then called 911 to report she assaulted him.
Officers were unable to find the pair but a second witness called and reported the man pulled the woman out of the car on M Avenue and hit her several times. The witness saw the empty car roll across the street and strike and damage a medical business sign. The man then got into the car and drove away.
The man called 911 a second time and said he did not want to pursue the matter.
An officer later found the unoccupied car with fresh damage to the passenger side. An officer later found the woman, who said she and her boyfriend argued in the car but no assault happened. She denied being pulled from the car or punched and said she was not going to be a rat and get her boyfriend into trouble.

Friday, Oct. 16
• A vacant home in the 400 block of Second Street had a doorknob and a key lock box torn off an exterior door and taken. It appeared someone entered the house and rummaged through drawers and cabinets. Nothing appeared to be missing.
• A 16-year-old Anacortes boy was uninjured after he lost control of the pickup he was driving on Heart Lake Road near Mount Erie and struck a stump and bounced over a log on the side of the road. The pickup was rounding a curve on the wet pavement when the boy lost control of the vehicle. Excessive speed played a factor in the accident. He was cited for driving too fast for the conditions.
• A woman reported getting into an argument with her ex-boyfriend about who was a better parent to their child at a home on 20th Street. The woman said the man’s wife pushed her up against a wall and grabbed her by the neck. The woman had a visible scratch and hand print on her neck. The woman did not want to pursue charges against her ex’s wife and their relationship did not fit domestic violence laws.
• A $1,200 unlocked Trek mountain bike was stolen from a fenced yard in the 1400 block of 25th Street overnight.
Saturday, Oct. 17
• A Tacoma man reported the theft of a 10-foot Mercury inflatable boat and outboard motor from a dock on Cove Place. A security cable attaching the boat to the dock was cut. Estimated loss is $6,000.
• Someone prowled a van parked in the 1200 block of 18th Street and stole a leather jacket, a cell phone and a briefcase containing two blank money orders. The victim believed the van was locked, but there was no sign of forced entry.
• A 37-year-old Anacortes man riding a bicycle was uninjured after he struck a car that turned across a bike lane in the 3300 block of H Avenue. The car was traveling the opposite direction and turned into a driveway in front of the bicycle. The 26-year-old driver was cited for failure to yield the right of way.
Sunday, Oct. 18
• An officer saw two teenage boys look into a car parked in the 1200 block of 24th Street around 3:33 p.m. One of the boys entered the unlocked car and apparently removed something, then the two boys walked away. The officer contacted them a couple blocks away. One allegedly admitted taking a small container containing a bingo dauber and two empty packs of cigarettes from the car. Officers found a marijuana pipe on him during a search, and a small bag of marijuana on the second boy. They were released to their parents and face charges of vehicle prowling, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Monday, Oct. 19
• A 20-year-old man was arrested at a home in the 9100 block of Stevenson Road on an outstanding felony warrant for failing to report to jail on a drug charge. He was booked into the county jail.
• Someone tried to break into a construction trailer parked in the 2600 block of Highland Drive. An employee found a metal hasp partially cut.
• Fifteen commercial crab pots worth $130 each were stolen from a storage locker at a marina in the 1000 block of Q Avenue. The victim left the pots out overnight and found them missing in the morning.
• A parks department employee reported a restroom at Whistle Lake had a wooden door damaged apparently by a shotgun shot. The interior walls also sustained minor cosmetic damage.
• A $1,200 Apple laptop computer was stolen from an unlocked bedroom at a hostel in the 1000 block of 12th Street. A panhandler who was seen inside the building denied knowledge of the theft. He allowed a search of his backpack, but the computer was not found.
• A garage at a home in the 5300 block of Doon Way had graffiti written on it with a felt tip pen.
• A student’s $250 iPhone was stolen from a shop classroom at the high school. The victim was operating machinery and set the phone down under his jacket.
• A $500 table saw and a $300 chain saw were stolen from a home under construction in the 4100 block of Coral Root Place.
• A 55-year-old Acme woman was arrested after she allegedly assaulted her 57-year-old boyfriend at his home on M Avenue. An argument ensued after the woman came home and allegedly hit him numerous times. The man had a bloody scratch on his face.
The woman allegedly admitted she hit the man after confronting him about disrespectful e-mails he sent. She said he hit her, but had no marks to validate her claim. She was deemed the primary aggressor and booked into jail.
Tuesday, Oct. 20
• An officer stopped a car in the 3400 block of Oakes Avenue after a witness reported the driver, a 54-year-old Friday Harbor woman, was possibly intoxicated around 2:38 p.m. She smelled of intoxicants, had watery eyes and failed field sobriety tests. When informed she was under arrest, the woman became belligerent and uncooperative. She locked her legs and refused to walk, but was finally seated in the police car. Officers found an open bottle of vodka and six other bottles of alcohol in her car.
The woman allegedly screamed profanities and called the officer a Communist Nazi. She was taken to the police station where she refused to speak, except to scream profanities at officers and make several racially derogatory comments to them.
She continued to be uncooperative, used numerous stalling tactics during DUI processing and refused to take a breath test. While she was booked into jail she was uncooperative with the jail staff.
• An officer saw two women arguing outside a bar in the 300 block of Commercial Avenue around 10:26 p.m. The officer saw one woman push the other woman then slam her into a brick wall. The officer stopped and separated the two and learned they were sisters. The woman who was pushed said her sister got mad at her after she tried to get her to stop drinking.
The offending sister, a 51-year-old Anacortes woman, said she was only trying to help her sister. The officer told her there were better methods than slamming someone into a wall. She was arrested on a charge of domestic assault and booked into jail.
Wednesday, Oct. 21
• A 28-year-old Anacortes man was arrested after he allegedly assaulted his 23-year-old brother at a home on Q Avenue. The older brother was reportedly intoxicated and upset over girlfriend issues and took it out on his younger brother by pushing him and shoving him around. The older brother fled but was found by police a few blocks away. He was booked into jail.
• After receiving information that a student at the middle school possibly had marijuana, school officials searched a 13-year-old boy and found a bag with a bud of suspected marijuana. The boy’s mother and a police officer were called to the school. The boy claimed another student gave it to him. The boy was referred to juvenile court on a charge of marijuana possession.
• A pickup in a parking lot in the 800 block of 29th Street was broken into. The lower steering column was broken with wires exposed. Nothing appeared to be missing. The owner said gas was siphoned out of the pickup numerous times in the past.
Thursday, Oct. 22
• A resident of the 2000 block of Down Jones Way reported the theft of six gold and silver necklaces and chains from a jewelry box sometime in the past six months. Estimated loss is more than $1,000. The victim said there had been no forced entry into her home.
• A dog off leash in the Forest Lands aggressively ran up to a woman who was walking two dogs on leashes. The leashed dogs pulled the woman off balance and caused her to fall, possibly breaking her hand. The man walking the dog off leash refused to give his name to the woman.
• A 29-year-old Anacortes man was taken into custody at Anacortes Municipal Court at the request of the judge for reportedly violating the terms of his release from past violations. The man was transported to jail where he was scheduled to serve 180 days.
• An officer stopped a pickup in the 700 block of Commercial Avenue for speeding around 11:18 p.m. The driver, a 35-year-old Colorado man, smelled of alcohol and initially handed the officer an instruction permit rather than his driver’s license. The driver also had slurred speech and clumsy movements.
The driver told the officer he was headed to his motel, but the officer told him he was going the wrong direction. The driver failed field sobriety tests and was arrested. He provided breath samples almost three times the legal limit. He was cited and released to a sober adult.
Friday, Oct. 23
• A 30-year-old Anacortes woman reported an unknown man harassed her at a bar in the 300 block of Commercial Avenue then followed her and two friends to her friend’s car around 1:42 a.m. The man continued to harass her and tried to pick a fight with one of the friends.
The woman told the man to go away and he allegedly responded by punching her in the face. The woman said she was not seriously hurt and declined medical attention. Officers spoke with several people in the area, but no one had seen the man before.
• An employee of a medical facility in the 1200 block of 24th Street found the side of his car was keyed in the parking lot while he was at work. The scratch ran the length of the passenger side of the car.
