A woman reported her son woke up to a blonde woman in her 30s wearing neatly done make-up and stiletto heels inside of their house in the 4500 block of Anaco Beach Road last week.
The son told the strange woman to leave and she apparently asked, “Would you like me to turn the light off?”
The mother then also told the stranger to leave and described her as “superwoman” because she reportedly jumped over two crab pots and a retaining wall as she left.
The mother reported the stranger was calm and polite, but was possibly under the influence of drugs. The mother reported the incident because of burglary activity in the neighborhood.

Friday, Aug. 22
• A resident of the 2600 block of Shannon Point Road reported someone entered his house through an unlocked window and stole a fire-safe box containing birth certificates, social security cards and savings bonds. The victim also reported about $4,400 in women’s jewelry was taken.
The victim later checked his neighbor’s house and found an unsecured door. The neighbor and an officer checked the house and found opened drawers and items scattered on the floor. The homeowner was called and confirmed the house should have been locked. The investigation continues.
Saturday, Aug. 23
• An 18-year-old Anacortes man was cited for DUI and possession of drug paraphernalia after an officer stopped his vehicle in the 2300 block of Commercial Avenue for driving without its headlights at about 12:30 a.m. The officer smelled marijuana coming from the car, and the man eventually admitted he smoked marijuana in the car earlier. The officer found a marijuana pipe and five unopened cans of beer. When asked about the beer, the man allegedly said he was “hammered.” He reportedly tested over the legal adult limit.
• A 17-year-old Anacortes boy faces a charge of DUI after an officer stopped his car for speeding and straddling the center line on A Avenue near Parkside around 4:30 a.m. The driver and four other teenagers in the car allegedly admitted drinking at a party in Oak Harbor. The passengers were cited and released. The driver reportedly gave breath samples approximately twice the legal limit for an adult and was released to his father.
• Officers responded to a report that four juveniles were chopping down a tree in the Forest Lands near Little Cranberry Lake at about 7 p.m. Officers found a freshly cut tree and an old ax, but no juveniles.
• A 54-year-old Burlington man was stopped on Highway 20 near Padilla Heights Road after his car reportedly struck a curb and almost hit another car around 8:45 p.m. The driver allegedly admitted he had a few drinks at a friend’s house in Oak Harbor and provided breath samples about two and a half times the legal limit. He faces a DUI.
• Officers responded to the report of a fight at a house in the 3900 block of M Avenue just before 11 p.m. Several people fled before officers arrived, but a 22-year-old resident was found behind the house after he tried to run through some brush. He had two outstanding warrants for his arrest out of Island County for DUI and possession of drug paraphernalia and was turned over to a deputy.
Sunday, Aug. 24
• A woman was booked into jail for investigation of felony domestic assault after her live-in boyfriend reported she tried to stab him. He said they argued and she threatened to stab him, then got a knife and lunged at him while he called 911. The man said the woman slapped the phone from his hand and fled. She was arrested a short time later. She allegedly admitted threatening the man and knocking the phone from his hand, but denied actually picking up a knife.
• An employee of a car dealership on Thompson Road reported someone stole the fiberglass convertible top from a Honda parked on the lot for sale. The car’s side windows were smashed to allow the thieves to remove the roof, which was valued at $3,400.
• A Mount Vernon woman reported she forgot her purse at a restaurant in the 2800 block of Commercial Avenue. When she returned to look for it, it was gone. Later that day, a man found the purse in the 2200 block of Minnesota Avenue and took it to the police station. The only thing missing was a pack of cigarettes.
• A 22-year-old Anacortes woman faces a DUI charge after her car was stopped for speeding and driving erratically in the 1200 block of I Avenue just after 2 a.m. The car struck a tree stump just prior to the stop. The driver allegedly admitted drinking since getting off work at a downtown bar, but declined to give a breath sample.
Monday, Aug. 25
• A man and his wife were awakened by a loud crash at their home in the 1800 block of Eighth Street around 1:30 a.m. They found an exterior door’s window shattered and the door open. The woman’s purse containing her ID, cash and credit cards was gone. A K-9 unit was unable to track the suspect.
• A dental office in the 1200 block of 29th Street was vandalized with spray-painted graffiti on a fence.
• Officers contacted two 17-year-old Anacortes boys in the woods near a school in the 1400 block of 41st Street after a witness reported seeing a possible “drug deal” in the area just after noon. A baggy of suspected marijuana was found on the ground near one of the boys and the other smelled strongly of marijuana. The boys allegedly admitted that one had the marijuana and the other had a marijuana pipe in his pocket. The boys were later referred to juvenile court for possession charges.
• A resident of the 1100 block of 32nd Street reported the theft of about nine gallons of gas from a vehicle parked outside his home.
Tuesday, Aug. 26
• A Guemes Island resident reported the theft of a hood ornament from a car parked near the Guemes Ferry dock.
• An Anacortes woman reported the theft of an 18 speed mountain bike from outside a cinema in the 400 block of O Avenue.
• A Bow resident reported the theft of his boat and motor from a dock at a marina in the 1100 block of Q Avenue. The boat was found the next day at an adjacent dock with keys in it and nothing missing.
Wednesday, Aug. 27
• An Anacortes woman was awakened when she heard her front door slam just before 5:30 a.m. in the 3900 block of Broadview Drive. She found someone had stolen her purse from her bedroom. The back door had probably been left unlocked. A short time later, the woman learned from her bank that someone tried to use her debit card.
• The owner of a salvage yard in the 9300 block of Padilla Heights Road reported someone damaged the windshields of about 20 vehicles on his property by shooting them with a BB gun over the past week. Estimated damage is $200 per window.
• A 14-year-old Anacortes boy reported his $600 mountain bike was stolen from a hiding spot in the bushes at a friend’s house in the 1100 block of Ninth Street.
• Two vehicles were reportedly keyed within the past week while parked behind a business in the 900 block of 11th Street. The victims discovered scratches to the hoods and sides of their cars. Estimated damage is $300 per car.
• A 40-year-old Anacortes man was arrested on a charge of DUI after he didn’t stop for a stop sign and hit another car just after 7 p.m. at Commercial Avenue and Highway 20. An officer reportedly smelled intoxicants on the man, who performed poorly on field sobriety tests and provided breath samples almost twice the legal limit. The man was also cited for negligent driving and having no insurance.
• A 27-year-old Tacoma man was detained by U.S. Border Patrol agents at the state ferry terminal after a marijuana pipe was found in the car he was driving. The man, who had a Connecticut driver’s license, was driving a car with British Columbia license plates, but he had no registration or proof of ownership. He was cited for possession of paraphernalia.
Thursday, Aug. 28
• A 35-year-old Spokane man reported someone drove a car through decorative concrete landscaping at a home in the area of 12th Street and D Avenue around 2 a.m. The man, who appeared to be intoxicated and was the only one at the accident scene, claimed an unknown man he met in a downtown bar offered to drive him home due to his drinking. An officer found three other people walking several blocks away who said they had been passengers in the wrecked car. They said the man at the scene was the driver and had been “driving like an idiot.” The driver provided breath samples that were twice the legal limit. He faces charges of DUI and providing a false statement to a public servant.
• A woman living in the 1600 block of 39th Street reported someone threw garbage around her lawn, uprooted plants in her yard, dumped out potted plants, threw dirt around her yard, broke yard lights, broke flowers and covered flower beds with toilet paper. A neighbor’s yard also was covered with toilet paper.
• An employee of a business in the 1000 block of 24th Street reported someone painted graffiti on the side of the building. Cleanup cost was estimated at $300.
• Two neighbors in the area of the 1100 block of 16th Street reported someone ripped side mirrors off their vehicles overnight. Replacement cost was estimated at $200 each.
• A 58-year-old Anacortes man faces a charge of DUI after a citizen reported seeing the man, who appeared to be intoxicated, drive away from a store after purchasing beer around 6:30 p.m. An officer stopped the vehicle in the 900 block of 31st Street after watching it roll past the stop line at Q Avenue. The driver smelled strongly of intoxicants and repeatedly called the male officer “ma’am.” An open bottle of alcohol was seen inside the car and the man allegedly admitted drinking a beer he had just bought while driving. The man’s breath samples were reportedly more than three times the legal limit. He was released to his wife.
• Officers responded to a fight in progress in the 900 block of Fourth Street around 8:15 p.m. They contacted a 34-year-old Anacortes man standing outside an apartment building who had a cut eye, swollen nose and a false tooth knocked out. The man was upset and yelling at an 18-year-old Anacortes man inside the building to come out and fight. Officers were told the younger man gave the older man $20 to buy marijuana and then confronted the older man when he returned empty handed. The younger man said the older man threw a cell phone that struck him in the face, so he punched the older man in the face. Both men began throwing punches and the younger man punched the older man in the face again before a neighbor broke them apart. The older man said he would get a medical examination later. Possible charges are pending.
