Annual hedgehog gathering features talks, shows
Anacortes will be home to a showing of small spiny mammals when the sixth annual Hedgehog Gathering Northwest comes to town.
The international hedgehog show is 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 4 at Depot Arts Center, 611 R Ave. The gathering is like a dog or cat show — but with hedgehogs instead.
The hedgehogs are judged in three categories: attitude, health and shape.
The event begins with registration at 9 a.m. An educational talk is at 10:30 a.m. followed by children’s story hour at 11:30 a.m. A short talk on judging standards is at 2 p.m. followed by the professional show at 2:30 p.m.
The day ends with junior showmanship beginning at 4 p.m. where kids are asked questions to demonstrate their knowledge of hedgehogs while showing one.
The show also offers hedgehog memorabilia including shirts, dollhouse furniture, jewelry and back to school luggage.
Admission is $5 for adults, $4 for seniors and $3 for children.
Show cost is $8 per show per hedgehog and $3 per child in the junior showmanship.
