Hundreds of participants are expected to turn out for the Anacortes Art Dash ‘08 starting at 9 a.m. Saturday, July 26 in the City Hall parking lot at 904 Sixth St.

The race course follows the Tommy Thompson Parkway, turning around at 30th Street for the 5K, at the start of the trestle over Fidalgo Bay for the 10K, and around March Point for the half marathon. All races end at the Port of Anacortes warehouse at Third Street and Commercial Avenue.

First aid and water will be available at stations throughout the course.

As at last year’s race, African drummer Saeed Abaas will perform outside the warehouse to greet runners crossing the finish line.

Awards will be given to the top male and female 5K finishers at 10 a.m. and to the top male and female 10K and half marathon winners at 11 a.m.

Major sponsors of the third annual event are the Anacortes Arts Festival and the Anacortes Parks and Recreation Department.

The mail-in registration deadline was July 11, but people can still register at the event between 7 and 8:45 a.m. Space will be limited. The cost is $25 for the 5K, $35 for the 10K, $45 for the half marathon run or walk and free for kids 12 and younger or 70 and older. Proceed benefit art along the parkway.

Checks should be made payable to Anacortes Arts Festival.

Additional sponsors are TalkingRain beverage company, Erin Baker’s Wholesome Baked Goods, Great Harvest Bread Co. and Island Hospital Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation.

People are asked not to bring dogs to the event.
