Quilt exhibits
LA CONNER — Peruse the contrasting quilt art of Laura Fogg and Manhattan Quilters’ Guild members in two exhibits — “Barns & Botanicals: Fabric Collage Landscapes by Laura Fogg” and “MetroTextural” — through May 11 at the La Conner Quilt and Textile Museum, 703 S. Second St. Fogg is a master of fabric collage landscapes with a 3-D effect. “MetroTextrual” features 21 quilted works relating to texture and the landscape of New York City. This is the first group show from the Manhattan Quilters Guild to be shown in the Northwest. $5, free for members and ages 12 and younger. Art in a Pickle Barn
MOUNT VERNON — It’s time again to view some of Skagit Valley’s best artworks during the Skagit Artist Association’s 19th annual Art in a Pickle Barn show, with some 40 artists from Skagit County and across Washington state presenting a variety of fine art, photography, paintings and more, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily starting Saturday, March 29, and continuing through April 27 at 15195 Highway 536, Building B. A new addition this year is the display of Education Service District Northwest High School County winners’ award-winning 2-D art displays. Watch as artists demonstrate their techniques daily, while enjoying a variety of live entertainment during the weekends. Local artist Jennifer Lommers will create a mural throughout the show. ‘Art at the Schoolhouse’
MOUNT VERNON — The works of Stanwood-Camano Arts Guild members will be on display April 4-27 as part of the “Art at the Schoolhouse” show during the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival at the historic 1888 schoolhouse at Christianson’s Nursery, 15806 Best Road. Check out a variety of art, including watercolor paintings, acrylics, oils, mixed-media, photography, glass, jewelry and metal works at this newest of Skagit Valley Tulip Festival venues. Artists will be on hand to demonstrate their crafts. The exhibit will be open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily.

‘The Cure at Troy’
SEATTLE — The Seattle Repertory Theatre presents the story of the Trojan War as you’ve never seen it, “The Cure at Troy,” a play by Nobel Prize-winning poet Seamus Heaney and director Tina Landau, from April 3 through May 3 at the Seattle Center, corner of Second Avenue and Mercer Street. The fate of a war rests on a plan by Odysseus, who discovers the only way to guarantee a victory over the Trojans is by using the bow and arrow of the god Hercules. But the weapon is in the hands of Philoctetes, a wounded soldier abandoned by Odysseus on a wretched muddy island 10 years earlier.
