MARBLEMOUNT — Search and rescue workers started looking today for a 22-year-old Everett hiker who has been missing in the North Cascades since Thursday.
Mark Albrecht had been on a three-day long hike about 20 miles southeast of Marblemount, said Paula Ogden-Muse, a National Park Service spokeswoman. He was expected to return home Wednesday night.
Officials found Albrecht’s vehicle parked at the Eldorado trailhead Friday night.
“That set off all the bells and whistles,” Ogden-Muse said.
A team of rescue workers from the park and from the Skagit County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue set out at 5 a.m. today to search for Albrecht. As of late this afternoon, there was no sign of him, Ogden-Muse said.
She said the weather has not been conducive to a successful search with low cloud cover in the mountains. A helicopter is on standby. Hikers on the ground say they can’t see very far.
Ogden-Muse said Albrecht is a former Eagle Scout with some experience in the outdoors.
She said Albrecht was on foot and was planning to camp in the area of the Sahale Glacier.
