B-E School District taps new superintendent

BURLINGTON — The Burlington-Edison School Board voted Monday to promote the district’s assistant superintendent to take the place of outgoing Superintendent Rick Jones.

The appointment will make Laurel Browning the district’s first female superintendent.

The board’s unanimous vote means that Browning officially takes the new post on July 1 on a limited two-year contract. She will be evaluated in January for a possible contract extension.

Jones accepted a position with the North Kitsap School District earlier this year, and his last day at B-E is June 30. Browning’s familiarity with the district will reduce the learning curve that would have existed with an outside candidate.
