QUINCY, Mass. — The Mount Vernon Babe Ruth League baseball team turned its play around just in time at the Babe Ruth League World Series.
Spencer McBride turned in a complete-game victory and went 2-for-3 with a double as Bulldogs beat Cambridge 7-3 Tuesday, pulling themselves within one win of getting to the semifinals going into today’s game against Norwalk, Connecticut.
First baseman Chris McDowell had a double and two RBI and right fielder Marchael Acode added a double and three RBI to help lift the Bulldogs (1-2) to their first win in the tournament for 14-year-olds.
Coach Adam McAbee said it was nice to see the offense find its spark.
“In the last games we had four hits, two runs. That’s unlike us. We get nine to 12 runs a game,” he said.
The Bulldogs must win today’s game, which is scheduled for 9 a.m. Pacific time, to stay alive in the tournament.
McAbee said they’re playing well at just the right time.
“The kids are hitting the ball better and are finally getting relaxed and playing the game,” he said.
