July 16, 1908
Anacortes has at last reached the stage in which it will maintain an armed and uniformed body of men, not a company of the National Guard, but a company of Uniform Rank Knights of Pythias, several of whom have seen active service in war time and most of whom have had military training either in militia or college.

July 18, 1918
About 85 per cent of the babies and children under six that were weighed and measured in Anacortes Tuesday and yesterday reached the standard approved by the Children’s Bureau of the government, said Dr. Minnie Burdon, who has given much time to the work. In all, approximately 400 babies were examined, about 66 per cent of the children in Anacortes who should have been recorded.

July 19, 1928
Anacortes now has an airport, thanks to our good friend and forward-looking citizen, Fred March, and it’s located at March’s point. Sponsored by the Kiwanis Club, Chamber of Commerce and citizens of Anacortes, C.L. Scott, president and manager of Everett air port, will fly up in a four-passenger cabin Ryan monoplane Saturday, July 28. This is the same type of plane in which Col. Lindbergh flew to France.

July 15, 1948
Colorfully attired and claimed to be one of the crack performing groups in the state of Washington, the Seattle Cossacks Motorcycle Stunt and Drill team will be here for the big Marineers’ Pageant parade on Saturday and for exhibitions following the close of the parade.

July 17, 1958
A tremendous increase in construction permits for new homes in Anacortes was recorded here last month. The dollar value of dwelling permits issued here in June was $122,000. This was 182 per cent higher than last June’s $43,300 and it was 272 per cent higher than the previous month’s figure of $32,800.

July 11, 1968
Dredging operations are now under way in Flounder Bay (Skyline) and are expected to be completed by Aug. 25, according to the 13th Coast Guard District local notice to mariners issued this week.

July 19, 1978
In a lively session, the members of the Skyline Beach Club at their annual meeting Saturday approved a 56 percent hike in yearly dues, approved the dredging of Flounder Bay and went on record against three-story condominiums proposed for their area.

July 20, 1988
The City of Anacortes July 18 approved the initial interlocal agreement to purchase a $620,500 parcel of land from the Port of Anacortes. The property, between S and T avenues and Fourth and Sixth streets, will be the site for the new secondary treatment plant.
