SKAGIT/ISLAND/SAN JUAN COUNTY—FINANCIAL RELIEF FOR FARMERS: Ranchers who lost livestock as a result of natural disasters in 2008 or 2009 may apply for financial relief under the Farm Service Agency’s Livestock Indemnity Program. For losses that have already occurred, the agency will accept applications until Sept. 13 at the USDA Service Center in Mount Vernon.
The program will compensate for disasters, such as the January 2009 floods, which may have caused livestock losses in excess of normal mortality rates.
