SEDRO-WOOLLEY — The smell of marijuana and freshly baked brownies seeped from a home as police officers arrived Thursday morning with a search warrant.
Only three marijuana-laced brownies were eaten from the freshly baked pan, and one partially eaten brownie lay on the ground unclaimed, said Sedro-Woolley Police Chief Doug Wood.
Police arrested a 20-year-old man from the 300 block of Reed Street Thursday morning. The man is suspected of dealing a variety of drugs — mostly marijuana — out of the home, just two blocks east of the Sedro-Woolley Police Department, Wood said.
Police took the man’s two young children, ages 1 and 2, into protective custody, Wood said.
Neighbors have complained about heavy traffic at the home for months, Wood said.
“It’s not a big case, but sometimes we do a small case like this when it’s a distinct neighborhood problem,” Wood said.
He said undercover detectives bought personal-use amounts of drugs — marijuana, hydrocodone and cocaine — from the 20-year-old man on several occasions before returning with a search warrant Thursday.
Wood said during the search, police also confiscated nine cats, seven dogs, marijuana and, of course, the remaining still-warm marijuana brownies.
The animals were taken to the Humane Society of Skagit Valley.
There were five other people at the home, as well as the children, when police arrived, Wood said. But only the 20-year-old father is expected to be charged.
Wood said the others do not face drug possession charges because officers couldn’t tell who had eaten the brownies.
