Candidate forums on tap this week

By now, area voters have received their primary ballots in the mail. Local organizations will hold candidate forums this week to help those voters make up their minds:

• Candidates for Skagit County commissioner in districts 1 and 2 have been invited to a forestry forum, 8 to 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Cranberry Tree Restaurant, 2030 Freeway Drive, Mount Vernon. The forum follows the regular meeting of the county Forest Advisory Board and will address issues of importance to foresters. The public is invited.

• A candidate forum hosted by the Anacortes Chamber of Commerce, 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Anacortes Lutheran Church, 2100 “O” Ave. Expected participants include candidates from the state legislative races in districts 10 and 40; candidates for U.S. Congress, District 2; Skagit County commissioner candidates and candidates for state governor. The event follows a Chamber-only forum at 11:30 a.m.

• The Save South Fidalgo neighborhood group will sponsor a forum for Skagit County Commissioner District 1 candidates, 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Dewey Beach Fire Station at Highway 20 and Deception Road.
