ALGER — One of the victims in Tuesday’s violent spree up and down the Silver Creek neighborhood was Chester “Chet” Rose, 58, a community leader there.

“He was very, very respected. He’s lived the longest in our little neighborhood,” said William Ainscough, who lives about 50 feet from Rose’s home on Bridle Place, a wooded cul de sac at the far end of the community.

Marje Faubion, another neighborhood resident, considered Rose a friend. She and her husband would socialize with Rose and his wife Karen. The Roses enjoyed traveling together, Faubion said.

The Roses had recently divorced, according to neighbors. They had two adult daughters who grew up with Isaac Zamora, the man police suspect killed Rose at his home Tuesday afternoon.

“He knew (the suspect) from when he was a kid,” Faubion said of Rose. “I just don’t know why he shot Chet, why he would do that.”

Rose owned Silver Creek Construction before moving on to become project manager for a larger construction firm.

He also served several terms as president of the Silver Creek Road Association. Silver Creek Drive is a private road, and the association maintains it. Rose was described as among the first to volunteer for Saturday work parties to fill potholes and level rough patches.

Bridle Drive resident Al McGillis, who lives around the corner from Rose’s home, has worked with Rose on the Saturday road crews.

“Every time you saw him, he was ready to smile, wave and shake hands — that sort of person,” McGillis said. “You met the guy, you liked him. That’s the way he was.”
