Sound Health Chiropractic’s goal is to help every patient achieve an active lifestyle without recurrent pain or fear of re-injury, said chiropractor David Cox, who opened the practice last month.

“Research shows chiropractic care is one of the most important health care solutions to back pain and overall health,” he said.

Cox, a practicing chiropractor for 15 years, offers chiropractic care, specific exercise programs for acute and chronic injuries and lifestyle advice.

“We look at people to assess their stresses in life,” he said. The next step is coach people to change their habits to relieve stress and physical pain.

He said it’s common for people to come in with issues such as headaches, back pain (including from pregnancy), sciatica and pain in their extremities, among a list of other problems.

Cox has a master’s degree in biology from UCLA with an emphasis in neurophysiology.

“While I loved the anatomy and physiology I was not attracted to the drugs and surgery,” he said.

That led him to become a chiropractor.

He practiced in California and Idaho, most recently in Sandpoint.

While in Idaho, Cox started Quest Aircraft to fly to remote areas to provide humanitarian care. After resigning from the company, he decided to move back near the water and came to Anacortes.

Cox said his approach to treating pain is specific to the person.

He teaches patients special exercises to reduce the occurrence and severity of chronic symptoms as well as reduce healing time in new injuries. His wife, Patty, is a personal trainer at Bayside Fitness and is available to help patients in the office’s exercise room.

Cox also coaches patients on certain activities they should avoid or do differently to prevent aggravating their health challenges.

The office, located at 1218 29th St., Suite B, is part of the Sound Health Center complex, which also includes a dentist, physical therapist, massage therapist, acupuncturist and counselor. Cox said he is considering bringing in a naturopath.

To help introduce patients to his practice, Cox is offering free 30-minute consultations.
