The Anacortes Christian Church is registering new students for the fall term. The preschool is open to children who will be 3 years old by Aug. 31 as well as 4- and 5-year-olds.

The purpose of the preschool is to provide early childhood educational experiences in a caring Christ-centered environment. Individual and small group activities are provided daily. The program aims to provide teaching and projects that will help children grow in a variety of skill areas that will help prepare them for kindergarten.

Among the skills focused on in the preschool experience are the following: Cognitive skills — staying on task, sequencing, reproducing, patterning and numbers. Self expression — oral, written, music and movement. Social skills — cooperation with peers, courtesy and relationship building. Motor skills — large and small motor skills, gross and fine motor movement. Reading readiness — alphabet recognition and phonetic awareness.

An emphasis is also placed on Bible stories and memory verses. The preschool has been functioning since 1983. Teachers are Lori Kelley and Michelle Costanza.

Three-year-olds attend a two-day weekly program 9-11:30 a.m. Cost is $100 per month. Four and 5-year-olds can select a three- or five-day program 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Cost is $175 or $275 per month. A $50 non-refundable registration fee will reserve a place in the program. Children need to be potty trained.
