CLEAR LAKE — A 33-year-old man was arrested Monday night after he assaulted his mother and sister, then went after a deputy with knife and a hay hook, according to the Skagit County Sheriff’s Office.

About 6:30 p.m. Monday, deputies responded to a domestic violence call at a home in the 23000 block of Old Day Creek Road, about three miles east of Clear Lake.

The man’s mother said her adult son lost his temper and pushed her to the ground, injuring her shoulders and back. When the man’s sister tried to intervene, he punched the sister in the face, said Will Reichardt, Sheriff’s Office chief criminal deputy.

When deputies arrived and searched the property for the man, they came across a locked shop and could hear someone inside talking, Reichardt said.

As deputies started to enter the shop, the door flew open and the man charged toward them with a hay hook and a survival knife. One deputy pushed him away, and another used a Taser stun gun on him, Reichardt said. The man continued to resist, and the deputy stunned him again.

The man was arrested and booked into the Skagit County Jail on investigation of second-degree assault for the attack on the deputy and two counts of fourth-degree assault for domestic violence.

The deputies were not injured. The women were both treated for minor injuries.

“This was an incident that could have easily gone very badly for the suspect, victims or the deputies,” Reichardt said. “The deputies made good use of their training and equipment. Otherwise this incident could have had a much different outcome.”
