ANACORTES — The City Council tonight will discuss Skagit Valley College’s marine trades center and a development that would include office space and condos near the Cap Sante Boat Haven.
First, the council will meet at 5:30 p.m. today at Oakes Avenue and Edwards Way for a site visit of the San Juan Passage development’s restoration plan.
The council will then convene its regular meeting at 7:30 p.m. in City Hall at 904 Sixth St.
The council could decide on a request for a conditional-use permit that would allow the college to build its Northwest Career and Technical Academy.
The college currently offers courses in the marine trades at its Oak Harbor campus but has plans to move to Anacortes to be nearer to boat builders in the city. The land where the center would be built is owned by the Port of Anacortes.
The council also will consider a request for a conditional-use permit by Homestar’s Marina Place project for 20 one- and two-bedroom condos on top of garages and 7,000 square feet of office space.
The development would be three stories high at the northwestern corner of R Avenue and Ninth Street, the location of the city’s temporary dog park.
