The Sedro-Woolley football team is getting back on the field quickly.
The Cubs, who beat Lynnwood on Thursday, host Everett on Tuesday in a Northwest 3A District playoff game.
That doesn’t leave much time for preparation, but Cubs coach Bryan Alexander said the team will work with what it’s got.
“We’re just trying to treat it as normal a week as we can,” he said.
“At this point of the season, you’ve seen about every (defensive) front and every offense. It’s just about finding out what the team’s strengths are and adjusting your schemes to that.”
Sedro-Woolley (5-4) and Everett (5-4) will play at 7 p.m.
The winner moves into a first-round state playoff game Saturday against top-ranked Bellevue (9-0).
Everett is the No. 3 team from the Western 3A Conference.
The Seagulls went into the final week of conference play in a four-way tie for first.
A loss to Meadowdale cost Everett the chance to avoid Tuesday’s district playoff game altogether.
Sedro-Woolley and Everett have had three common opponents. Both beat Shorecrest and Lynnwood, and both lost to Ferndale.
Alexander isn’t putting much stock into how the common opponents shake out.
“Each game is so different, I try not to play the comparison game too much.”
What Alexander has noticed is that the Seagulls have a good amount of seniors, they’ve got good athletes and they are pretty physical.
The Cubs are going into the game on a high note.
They have won their past two games rather handily, beating Mount Vernon 49-29 and defeating Lynnwood 66-6.
“I think the last two weeks have been huge for us,” said Alexander. “But the last five weeks we’ve played well. We’ve got a lot of confidence right now.”
The Cubs, who lost their first three games, have won five of their past six.
The difference lately has been the team’s ability to put points on the scoreboard.
“The offense is hitting its stride right now,” said Alexander. “Defensively, we’ve been playing well all year.”
