Three local Democrats will hold a combined campaign fundraiser in Mount Vernon next month.

State Rep. Jeff Morris, seeking to retain his position in Legislative District 40, will host the fundraiser at his home on Aug. 5 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. He will be raising campaign money with two other Democratic candidates — San Juan County Commissioner Kevin Ranker, who is running for the 40th district senate seat, and Skagit County Commissioner Ken Dahlstedt.

Morris had raised more than $83,000 as of Friday, according to the Public Disclosure Commission. His opponent, Green Party candidate Howard Pellett of Guemes Island, had no reported contributions.

Of the five candidates who seek to replace Harriet Spanel in the state Senate, Ranker has raised the most money, with nearly $60,000 in reported contributions.

Dahlstedt’s fundraising lags behind that of his main challenger, Republican Don Gordon. Dahlstedt has raised $1,900, including $1,000 from the Skagit County Democratic Party. Gordon has raised $8,554, not including loans to his campaign.
