The Seahawk Pee Wees celebrate their conference championship victory last weekend

After eliminating the Arlington Eagles 13-12 thanks to a last-minute goal-line stand in the North Cascades Youth Football League Pee Wee Division B conference championship game, the Anacortes Seahawks Pee Wee team is headed for the league championship next weekend at Mount Vernon High School.

The Seahawks will face the Oak Harbor Lynx at a time and day to be determined.

The Seahawk Pee Wees are the only Anacortes team to make the championship game this year. The seniors were eliminated in the first round of the playoffs and both the midgets and juniors fell in close games in the second round.

Anacortes Pee Wees finished the regular season 5-2 and in first place heading into the playoffs.

Anacortes scored first against Arlington, but the Eagles answered with two touchdowns to take a 12-6 lead.

With just over three minutes left on the game clock, Anacortes drove down the field to score a touchdown. The extra point gave them a 13-12 lead.

Arlington fought right back, marching to a first down on the Seahawks’ 1-yard line as the clock wound down.

The Seahawks’ defense stuffed the Eagles on four straight plays to preserve the victory.

The Seahawks eliminated the Oak Harbor Bobcats 34-31 in the first round.

Anacortes scored first and held the lead until the Bobcats moved ahead with less than a minute remaining in the game.

With 27 seconds left on the clock and three timeouts, the Seahawks drove down the field to score the winning touchdown.
