ANACORTES — The state Department of Ecology wants public input on plans for the cleanup of the former Scott Paper mill site.
The site is located along the Anacortes waterfront between 17th and 20th streets and east of Q Avenue.
A lumber mill opened on the site in the late 1800s and was followed by a pulp mill, which operated from about 1925 to 1978. And according to Ecology, “Metals, petroleum products and other chemicals contaminate the site and nearby aquatic sediments.”
A site investigation and cleanup report and a draft public participation plan can be viewed at the Anacortes Public Library, 1220 10th St., and Ecology’s Web site.
