MOUNT VERNON — More than 10 percent of the nearly 66,000 Skagit County voters eligible to participate in the Nov. 3 General Election had cast their ballots by Wednesday.
Washington Secretary of State Sam Reed is predicting 51 percent voter turnout statewide.
Skagit County Elections Supervisor David Cunningham said turnout in 2007, the most recent comparable election, was 56 percent and he expects about the same this year.
Cunningham said Wednesday his office had mailed out about 65,900 ballots and had gotten back about 6,700.
Ballots must be returned by Nov. 3 either by mail or to a drop box. Skagit County voters can return their ballots to drop boxes at the following locations:
-- Anacortes Public Library, 1220 10th St.
-- Burlington Parks and Recreation Department Building, 900 E. Fairhaven St.
-- Skagit Upriver Services and Library, 45770 A Main St., Concrete.
-- La Conner Regional Library, 614 E. Morris St.
-- Mount Vernon Police and Court Campus, 1805 Continental Place.
-- Skagit County Auditor’s Office, 700 S. Second St. Drop boxes are located outside the county building and inside the Auditor’s Office at room 201.
Cunningham said ballots can also be mailed with a regular first class stamp and must be postmarked by election day.
