Travis Graden of Monroe, co-owner of M&M Masonry, lays a few of the 35,000 bricks that will become part of the addition to the Skagit County Commissioners’ Administrative Building on Continental Place in Mount Vernon.

The expansion of the Skagit County Commissioners’ Administrative Building on Continental Place in Mount Vernon is well under way.

The $4 million expansion adds 19,000 square feet of space, including new offices for the planning and public works departments and a larger public meeting room.

The 32-foot facade engraved “2009” was erected first to guide the bricklayers who will lay 35,000 bricks for the addition.

County officials expect construction will be completed next fall.
