More troopers than usual will be patrolling the state roads especially at night Friday through Sunday, according to the State Patrol.
Troopers will be focusing on drivers who appear to be driving aggressively or under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
“Drivers must make a plan before the festivities begin — if you are going to drink, ensure you have a designated driver,” said State Patrol Captain Ken Ginnard in a news release. “Don’t take the risk of ruining your life and the lives of others.”
There will be extra patrols on Highway 9 between Whatcom County and Sedro-Woolley.
Troopers as well as deputies with the Skagit County Sheriff’s Office will also be patrolling Big Lake by boat to crack down on people boating under the influence of alcohol.
The State Patrol asks members of the public to call 911 if they witness aggressive, impaired or unsafe drivers. The license plate number, a description of the vehicle, location and direction of travel of the vehicle helps troopers find the drivers.
The State Patrol will also be using an aircraft to assist officers on the road.
Traffic delays are expected on Interstate 5 because of the increased holiday traffic, according to the State Patrol.
